    On May 31, 2018 during the EECCOA Challenge 2018 Awards Ceremony at Museum of Ventura County. The students were awarded for their proposals that demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills needed to find sustainable solutions for our pressing environmental issues. Students presented their proposals in a science-fair type of format while volunteer judges made questions and scores based on a rubric.     June culminated the filed studies season for 475 students participants of the MERITO Academy 2017-20

    Four hundred and seventy five 4th-6th grade students from seven public elementary schools in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties gathered scientific data to populate on-going research, explored riparian, coastal and island environments. MERITO Foundation's, partners' staff and Channel Islands Naturalist Volunteers led science field-activities for all students at locations close to their schools to build stewardship for their local environments.     Spectacular Shark Citizen Science Expedition to the Revillagigedo Archipelago 2018

    The first expedition aboard organized by the MERITO Foundation in coordination with Ph. D. James Ketchum of Pelagios Kakunjá was a success! SCUBA divers from many countries participated in the tagging and data collection of shark research aboard Quino El Guardian at Revillagigedo Archipelago located 250 miles south of Cabo San Lucas.
