BECOME AN OCEAN STEWARD

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE AN OCEAN STEWARD?

Being a MERITO Foundation Ocean Steward means you care about protecting our ocean and want to take action. Ocean Stewards are youth who volunteer their time to support our mission, whether it’s through beach cleanups, community events, or sharing knowledge about environmental issues.

As a steward, you’ll help educate the public about ocean conservation, represent the MERITO Foundation at outreach events, and use tools like our watershed model to show how pollution affects our waterways. You’ll also get to meet other youth, make new friends, and be part of a fun, supportive community working together to protect our planet. All Ocean Stewards receive a short training led by MERITO staff to prepare for their role and make the most impact.

QUALIFICATIONS TO BE AN OCEAN STEWARD:

  • Care for the ocean!

  • Ages 13-18

  • Have transportation to and from locations (usually in Ventura and Oxnard areas)

  • MERITO Foundation must be able to communicate with parents / guardians via email or cell phone (MERITO staff is bilingual)
